Thermo experiment 2

May 8, 2008

After the miracle of congee, I did that thermo magic with oatmeal again(inspired by apple’s story). The same process as making congee, just replace the rice with oatmeal(unexpired).

But one accident occured this time- I totally forgot about it the next morning. It was almost 36 hours later that I remember I had a breakfast waiting for me. You know what? it’s still hot!

Then I added some honey(healthier and easier to store than milk). And sometime with walnut too(to improve memory).

Lazy smart congee

April 30, 2008

By studying the daily utensil and their stories, I learned that lazy smart way of making congee:

drop a handful of rice into a thermos bottle, fill it with hot boiling water. Go to sleep. And wake up having a bottle of congee ready for breakfast!

This morning, I was amazed with my first eco-congee. And very glad to find a new job for my little blue thermos bottle from now on. Thinking of words from the fashion designer Vivian Westwood. “I’ve never made anything new, but trying to make every same old stuffs with a new way…”.

With a believe in happy action, I went to share this discovery and congee with the grannie next door. She was more surprised than me, and said: ” 幾廿歲人!而家至識?有無搞錯呀! “

Breakfast Tax

My dog-sadhu, loves breakfast… everyone’s breakfast.

Usually about 10-15% of my muffin or toast has to be submitted for peace.

breakfast#2,3,4

April 21, 2008

Every morning, after serving the spirit in and around my house. I’ve to serve the souls at home.

Breakfast #2 is for tiger, a female cat about 13 years old. She loves the tibetan table so much that she’ll has her breakfast, afternoon tea and diner everyday on here. What excite her the most is fresh running water. She’ll jump from her sofa like jacky chan when she hear the tap water is running.

#3 is sadhu, a golden retriever adopted together with tiger and the tibetan table 1.5 year ago. He is in his middle age crisis, eg.knee problem, family reconstruction, start working as security…etc. What he love most is Hot Pot Rice.

#4 is ah4, a 6 years old male cat and very typical Pisces. Used to be vegetarian before age of 2. Now he likes only crispy biscuit. He is a fellow of slow food movement. So, very often hishalf finished breakfast is eventually finished by #3 sadhu.

breakfast number one—from benny

breakfast number one-

Every morning, I’ve to prepare breakfast for many parties. This is the first one above all. I started this practise since I moved in this house in last year.

I picked a Tibetan flavor incense, they smell good and strong. I think that could help to reach all the spirits who are so far away. Without the one who build this house, the sun, the sea, and the neighborhood(human and all other living being), I can’t enjoy the rest of the day.

breakfast without menu—20-03 from benny

April 1, 2008
I was in United Arab of Emirate last 2 weeks.
As a country with 90% of population are Indian, Pakistan, Lebanese and all sorts of asian immigrate, the “local” breakfast are mostly Indian or Pakistan food.
In almost every morning, I had my breakfast in a nearby market.
Interestingly, in almost every market there’s one coffee shop not 2.
And in almost all of them, there’s no menu but serving only tea/coffee, nan bread and curry vegetable.
Within that limited 3 items, I enjoyed a lot simply with a piece of bread and 2-3 cups of tea.
usually the bread is hot and baked in their kitchen.
the tea is hot through out the meal because of the size of the cup(finished before being cool). and that never cost more than HK$10 all together.
To memorize these good moment in the morning,
I brought back a glass from one of the restaurant with an arabic word “rainbow”printed in blue.

I made coffee almost every morning, with this little metal distiller.
It was brought to me by a friend from Vietnam.
It’s the best coffee maker I’ve tried so far.
Easy to clean, waste no paper, no bitter taste…
cheap and has a working class beauty.
ah…forget to mention the coffee itself.
It’s fair-trade coffee from Muji.
Taste very fair.

I tried a new way to toast muffin this morning.
One of my way to keep life simple, is to possess as little as possible.
So I tried to toast my muffin on an electric cooker with a metal net.
it’s quicker than I’ve imagined.
