Lazy smart congee
By studying the daily utensil and their stories, I learned that lazy smart way of making congee:
drop a handful of rice into a thermos bottle, fill it with hot boiling water. Go to sleep. And wake up having a bottle of congee ready for breakfast!
This morning, I was amazed with my first eco-congee. And very glad to find a new job for my little blue thermos bottle from now on. Thinking of words from the fashion designer Vivian Westwood. “I’ve never made anything new, but trying to make every same old stuffs with a new way…”.
With a believe in happy action, I went to share this discovery and congee with the grannie next door. She was more surprised than me, and said: ” 幾廿歲人!而家至識?有無搞錯呀! “

hey but my rice-cooker just worn-out, can you suggest any lazy and smart way to make rice without the rice-cooker nei? hehe

Do you what is “乞兒DULL” ? The flat and low ceramic pot with dark brown glaze on the side. They are my lazy cheap rice cooker.
Bring a glass cover and go to the 山貨鋪 in 蘇杭街 . They sell these 乞兒DULL in more than 10 different sizes. Get the one that match with your cover. The one I used is 8″ in diameter and cost $8 (is that cheap enough?) And then, you have your lazy cheap rice cooker.
It works basically the same way as electric cooker. Except that, they’re faster, tastier, crispier, and more nutritious(because of shorter boiling). Of course, you’ve to watch out or smell when the rice is ready.
